About the speakers:
Pastor Mick Fleming
Pastor Mick Fleming is a former drug dealer who set up Church on the Street in 2019 to help the homeless and people living in some form of poverty in Burnley and the surrounding area.In 2009, Mick suffered a 'complete breakdown' after nearly confronting a man who he was collecting a debt from with a gun. He was sectioned under the mental health act. It was during this time that that Mick met Pastor Tony, who used to visit. They would both pray and talk which led to Mick's life changing.
Mick is the author of Blown Away, a riveting autobiography where he relates his incredible journey from hardened criminal to discovering who he truly is in Christ; from helping to destroy lives through drug dealing, to helping others and saving lives through selflessly serving those in poverty. Laying bare his struggles in full for the first time, including a failed attempt at suicide, Pastor Mick tells how sharing his pain has helped others who are suffering. Since that first call that set him on the road to becoming a Christian minister he has seen miracles happen – including being able not only to forgive, but to help, the man who ruined his life.
Blown Away is a thought-provoking and inspiring Christian autobiography that offers insight into the violent underworld of crime, addiction and substance abuse in the UK and reveals the extraordinary power of faith, forgiveness and redemption. John-Paul Flintoff
John-Paul Flintoff is a writer, artist and performer. His books include Sew Your Own, What If The Queen Should Die?, and most recently A Modest Book About How to Make an Adequate Speech. Psalms for the City, out in October, is his first poetry collection which was written in response to his recover from a mental health crisis, and finding faith and healing in the spaces around him.
Psalms for the City is a beautifully illustrated book of poetry that offers comfort, inspiration and encouragement for the heart and soul, as John-Paul Flintoff puts into vibrant, captivating and sometimes heart-wrenching words the pockets of peace he has found in the midst of the non-stop noise and colourful chaos of the city.
Inspired by the psalms – some of the oldest and most soul-stirring poetry in the world – Flintoff’s fluid style and technical skills take us on a private tour of our most-loved urban landscapes and reveal the spiritual nourishment in some of its most famous sights. Lily-Jo
Lily-Jo is a singer/songwriter from Manchester in the UK and a trained Counsellor. After meeting so many people at gigs and hearing them tell me some of their life stories, she was moved to create the Lily Jo Project. The Lily-Jo Project is devoted to eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health through music, digital resources, and community engagement. Her book, Talking to Children About Mental Health, comes out next year.
